Dermal Filler and Anti-Wrinkle Injectables – An Extension To Cosmetic Dentistry
Dermal Filler Injectables
Cosmetic Dentistry aims to improve the health and the look of your teeth and your smile. Improving the look of the entire face is an extension of this specialised field. SEQ Dental Specialist, Dr. Florian Mack is qualified and offers patients dermal filler treatment. Below are some questions people often ask.
When the skin begins to deteriorate, and sometimes this happens quickly, as we age, our skin loses some of its fullness and elasticity, resulting in lines and wrinkles. We treat mature skin with dermal fillers which soften the lines and gently smooth the wrinkles.
Injections of dermal fillers take longer because it takes time until the local anesthetics work. The procedure for this can be up to 1hr.
The areas suitable for dermal fillers are the area below the eyes, around the nose, on the cheeks, depressed mouth, the nasolabial folds, the lips and chin.
Yes, people often have muscles around the cheeks injected to reduce teeth grinding and muscle pain.
Here some deep lines should be treated with muscle relaxant as they were caused by muscle contraction.
Viral infections may be re-activated by some treatments such as lip injections. Please advise us before treatment if you have suffered from cold sores or herpes virus. There are some pre-treatment medications you can take before starting with the dermal filler treatment.
The majority of side effects patients will encounter are to do with the injections process itself rather than the effects of botox. An itching, burning stinging pain or tenderness at the side of injection, tougher with swelling, bruising, redness and bleeding is by far the most common side effects to providing this treatment. These effects are temporary lasting at most a few days and can be received with analgesics, ice or creams such as Arnica Cream for bruising. The most common complication is the wrong muscle being affected. This can be avoided by ensuring you have a sound knowledge of facial anatomy.
The injections work by preventing or reducing muscle movement. People who have strong facial expressions cause the skin to crease or wrinkle. Muscle relaxant allows the skin to recover from muscle contractions.
- If you have hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid (HA)
- Previous history of severe gram-positive infections
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Patients using blood thinner medication (anticoagulant therapy, omega 3 fish oil intake or high dose of vitamin E)
- Anticoagulant therapy needs to be stopped for 1 week.
Prior to injecting dermal fillers, you will have local anesthetics to the area being treated. Wrinkle relaxant injections don’t require numbing up as we use very fine needles.
- Read all information provided, complete medical history and consent forms.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment
- Avoid anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medications (Aspirin, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, St John’s Wart, Omega-3-Fish Oils, Ibuprofen) for a period of 2 weeks before treatment.
- Do not schedule any major events on that day of, or for 2 weeks following treatment, to allow for any bruising or swelling to subside.
- DO NOT apply make-up on the day and wear comfortable clothing.
As with any application of local anesthetics, it is better to use public transport or Uber or taxi. If you get dermal filler only, you can drive your own car.
Costs vary depending on the amount of dermal filler used.
Depending on the application sometimes a single application can be successful. All produces used will be metabolized after 3-9 month by your body so a top up is required.
